The Harold Key Scholarship was established in the mid-1960s by The Arlington Great Southwest Rotary Club to honor Harold W. Key's passion for education and service. It evolved into a 501(c)(3) entity, the Harold Key Scholarship Endowment Fund, which is guided by Key's motto to "Invest in the Future of a Child."

Harold Key inspired the Arlington community with his philosophy that the student comes first. He served as the first principal of Sam Houston High School from 1962 to 1972, when he retired after forty-four years of distinguished service as a public educator. Key was a founding member of the Arlington Great Southwest Rotary Club in 1963, serving as its president from 1968 to 1969, and gaining recognition by Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow. His most prized honor was the naming of Dalworthington Garden's Key Elementary School for he and his beloved wife, Lucy Key (pictured opposite with HK Scholarship recipients).

The goal of the Endowment is to make higher education and vocational training a reality for the Arlington youth. To date, through donations and active fund raising of the Arlington Great Southwest Rotary Club, the Harold Key Scholarship Endowment Fund has provided undergraduate scholarships for students at Arlington Sam Houston High School (SHHS) of more than $98,000.00 to 121 SHHS students.

The Harold Key Scholarship Endowment Fund Board of Trustees extends a thank you to each and everyone who has contributed to make this endowment a success.
